Baigish 3 Russian Night Vision Scope. This scope was bought new from a dealer in the UK in 1997 and has been used only very occasionally since then. It is in full working order. The tube is still very sensitive and produces a bright, clear image even in virtual darkness by applifying any available light from stars, moon etc. The scope uses a high-quality Zenit M42 objective lens. Main focussing is by a ring around the front lens and then there is also a ring around the eyepiece for focussing the applified image, all very simple to use. The tube is energised by pressing the button on top of the scope for a few seconds, then release the switch, the tube continuing to glow for 2-3 minutes before needing another “boost” of power. The scope is powered by a standard PP3/6F22 9 volt “block” battery which lasts a very long time. For full specification see page from manual in photos. The scope is not very heavy and can be hand-held without fatigue weight of scope without case 800 gms/1.75 lbs. And there is a comfortable rubber eyecup. As to optical condition, the only minor issues are a tiny white dot which has developped over the years in the very centre of the image caused by light coming through the pin-hole in the lens cover and some tiny black dots which are probably specks of dust in the eyepiece. But 99% of the image is still clear. Cosmetic condition is very good as it has had very little use and has been kept most of time safely in dry storage within the house inside its case. “Baigish” is the Russian for “owl”.
